“Shut Up & Write” began as a movement for writers in San Francisco to structure their time and connect with other writers. Academics embraced the practice and the idea spread. If you are looking for a chance to jump-start your latest project, meet that conference paper deadline, or simply want a few hours of quiet to focus on your research, we invite you to join KU’s Shut Up & Write group for faculty. The method is simple: two to three 25-minute writing blocks, separated by 5-minute breaks. We are an open and flexible group, and you are welcome to come as often as your schedule allows. You identify what you’d like to work on at the start of each session and enjoy the benefit of having a select amount of time to focus on it and the support of the group to help you accomplish your goal.
